Last track-day for season ended, well in the wall...

Me and Johan went down to one of the faster tracks in Sweden, i was eager to try out my new 245/35 Kuhmo V70 semi-slicks. First time on this track and second time in the Evo.

First lap went well. But a lot of traffic came up ahead so i slipped into the pit and headed out again. After a while i was caught up by a Race Corvette and in the last corner he came up really close on my right side, when looked in the mirror, i was doing about 125, and my left tyres was out in the grass. I lost control and skidded into the concrete barrier. I manage to just hit the front fender, but it will need some work before its back together.

But overall, that chassis kit togethe with the really wide semi-slicks, its just absolutly fantastic.

Heres a clip of the two laps before i went off:, oh that sound is from the tyres rubbing the fenders. Need go modify these during the winter

Hi Mikael,

Tried my old 16v fender just to see if the holes lined up correctly to the body, only the top front and the lower two holes were not lining up, which is good

You can clearly see the the front holes really off

I had these adapters made, to lengthen the manifold, it was a bit short to be hones and should now be around 350mm. It was made using EDM or Electrical Discharge Machining.
Expensive but end result is really nice

So got my car back from today. Found an retired old gentleman, who restore cars in his spare time. And it turned out that he had the knowledge of body solder.
its quite hard finding people with the knowledge of this.

Anyway, he managed to fix my genuine Evo fender, when i checked the price a few days ago it was close to 800 euro.

So all the metal work is done, just need a new bumper and two new semi slicks, and of course some paint.

The cuts in the inner fenders are just to keep the wheels from rubbing, but i need to enlarge these next year.

Finally some updates, we are replacing the sun roof with a genuinde MB parts but without the sunroof, saves around 25kg in weight

I will install a new roof lining, so it will not be stripped out.

Hi Mikael,

Finally got the car back and the sunroof has been replaced with a genuine MB roof panel. Got or at least i thought i got all the parts to put the new roof lining in but apparently not.

Roof lining itself was only available in grey, same thing with the front roof panel. So i didn't have much of a choice but to order them in grey. I spoke to a company here in Gothenburg that restores the interior for the Volvo Museum, and they didn't think it would be problem to dye them black. So tomorrow morning i will bring the parts to them

But the biggest problem right now is to find the two missing bows for the roof lining, together with two clips that is not available from MB anymore

Few new parts, roof lining, roof console, two of the bows and a few other bits and pieces.
Bild

Brand new roof lining
Bild

Roof console, the switch for the sunroof needs to be replaced
Bild

Got the blind plug from Mercedes, and voila:
Bild

These rubber plugs are for the bows, 3 on each side. Then the bows inserted.
Bild

Damping material, fits above the bows.
Bild

The black panel is the old one, and the grey is the new one.
Bild

Here you can see the difference between the sun roof version and standard one. The one for non sunroof cars has a longer edge.
Bild

And a few shots of the new roof panel. I have not fitted the rear and front screen or any trim panels since i will send it off to the paint shop anytime soon.
Bild

Bild

Here are pieces that missing, im getting kinda of desperate so please if you are breaking a 190 without sunroof, or know of one being broken up for spares, please let me know.

I need:

No: 28
No: 32
No: 24, i need two of these.

Why not buy them used? Still possible to find a car without sunroof, and with black roof panel in good condition.

Yes i have tried, but finding one is not that easy. Been looking for 1 month, but still no luck. Do you know of any cars in Norway?

Mikael don't put universal Putty on bare metal, it accelerates corrosion as every Putty acts as a sponge (microscopic) and when water finds its way inside Putty once stone hits the paint above it or if it remains after wet sanding it will stay there forever under whole Putty area is corroded and with holes  .

BTW nice job with soldering, I do it every time it is the best when done properly as nothing adheres to bare metal as complementary metal ! :super

hi Shaq, and thanks for the comment. I have not actually done the soldering or the filler job, its bee done by guy here in Göteborg that restores oldtimer vehicles. But if i remember correctly he uses DuPont 313 filler and is according to their specification sheet ok to use on bare metal, since it contins zink.

But i will check with him, same guy also did the roof.

Btw. could you modify rev counter and speedomete to 9 or 10k Rpm scale and also do a AMG (old logo) speedometer?
