Maki´s right.
Main reason for the 2,3 is one of cost.
That aside, the 2,3 also holds forged pistons and so forth.
C-max is a definite argument.
However,C-max(mean average piston speed) is not a definite number.
What sets the hard limit is the materials involved.
Balance(as in engine balancing) someone might voice.
Not so with a 4 cylinder engine.
Balancing of a 4 cylinder is ONLY done at the crankshaft, and the relative weights of pistons as well as connecting rods aso are not imperative to the balance of the engine.
It is mainly a question of dynamic weight and metalurgy.
The 2,3 vs 2.5 theme as far as power...just forget about it.
The turbo is there to make that reasoning obsolete-and it sure does that.
