Hi, from the US.

Beitragvon Greg V » 29. Mär 2009, 23:37

First post here. So glad I came upon your forum as it's been two days of eye candy so far. Being I only read, write and speak english, it's been a little bit of a challenge finding my way around here.

Anyway, I'm new to the 16V. A friend had one about 14 years ago that I loved, and always loved the car since. Being in the US, there are not a whole lot here. 13 years later that friend sold me that car with only 45K miles on it. Sat for 12 years so it took a bit to get running, but it finally dis and very strong. Now, not so good, so I garaged it for the winter and will get it running this spring.

I'm one that loves race cars and I have to tell you, I very much would like to turn my 16V into a replica Class 1 DTM car. Not sure what I will do, but I have time to think about it.

So, just wanted to say "HI" and introduce myself. Along with an on line translation site, I will try and learn as much as I can from all here.
Thanks
Greg V :D

welcome aboard greg, nice looking 16 valve you have there!
you will find here a broad range of knowledge around the 16 valve 190's and if you have any technical question or problem don't hesitate to ask.
i have noticed on your 3rd picture, that the red area of the rev meter is starting at 6500 rpm. on all other country versions the red line is set to 7000 rpm.
anyway nice car and have fun here.

Nice one Greg, is that a 3rd brake light? Was that an option in the US?

Leave it to the US to mess up a good thing. Haaa. Third brake light is not an option in the US, it's law. Not surprised by the redline being lower here also, but can't give you a reason why it would be.
Same goes for the automatic climate control. If you want to defrost you have NO option but full blast fan with heat. Even in the summer.

I love the car and the little I've driven it, it handles fantastically for an older production car. She is a bit on the slow side, but power to weight ratio would predict that.
Of course I am having problems with the fuel system and will go EFI as soon as I can afford to. Some of you here have done a great job with that modification and just from your pictures alone, I am learning.

As I said, I'm quite torn on what to do with the car. Body is almost perfect but for three tiny rust spots. Paint is great from a distance but up close you can see some aging. Interior is almost perfect, but has a bit of a smell that I don't care for.
Car is a little boring to me as it looks now. Would really like to make it a Class 1 body and near class one interior. Like a streetable track car I guess. Ultimately I'd love to make it a class 1 DTM clone. Not many (any?) here in the states.

This is my last project HERE. This was my daily driver Mini Cooper S that I eventually turned into a full blown race car. Took me about two and a half years and by the time I was done the economy got bad and I had to put it aside. Did only one race in it last year.

But anyway, I now look at my 190 in the garage a drool over the thought of doing the same to it. Call me crazy, ... but stand in line.
