Mercedes W201 190E 16V EVO

I own a EVO 1 from UK.
I am getting spark and fuel but my car is not starting. This has happened since I replaced the fuel pump. Before it had a single pump (not original maybe from a 1., It also had a problem with idle before.
I have checked compression on all 4 cylinders and they are good. I am assuming that there is more than required fuel getting into the combustion chamber which means it is not being vapourized. I took out the plugs to check for fuel and there is a lot. I am assuming the CIS unit is playingup.
Where should I start?

The Evo I, dosent it have two pumps?? and are you sure that you get an spark at the plugs??

Have some one adjusted the KE whithout correct instruments???
in that case i should get your car to a certified BOSCH garage to tune the KE
to what it shold. This isent somthing you do by your self.

Yes I have replaced it with twin pumps.
There is spark and fuel alot of it.
How do I adjust the amount of fuel going in?

Please some more details, the engine run bevor with the wrong fuel pump (single pump)??

So there is no way to adjust the fuel pressure by original set up.

What kind of pumps have you replaced the OEM pumps whit? and why have you replaced the Bosch pumps

I have replaced the single pump unit which was from maybe 190e 1.8 which was running fine. To a twin original pump working tested new from mb dealer.
My point is that since I have replaced the pump back to the original twin setup it is giving too too much fuel which is causing the plugs to go wet causing no combustion.

I can promise you this: If someone have instaled a 1,8pump to a EVOI.
you HAVE to go to a bosch dealer to get this adjusted! forget enything els!

Are you 100% sure that even the KE-unit and all is sensors are for a 2.5-16 evoI engine??? likewise the injectors etc.

I do know that you have a very hi-system flow whit the two pumps and you
should have a fuelpressure of aprox 6-Bars in a 16v engine.

KE injectors are the same for the 190E 1.8 or the 2.5-16 EVO II.
The same applies for the sensors.

Fuel pressure for M102.983 and M102.99x is 5.7-5.9 bar while the standard M102 runs at 5.3-5.5 bar.

Check the system pressure and the fuel pressure regulator, the FPR is unique to the 16valver, MB part no. 000 078 10 89, Bosch part no. 0438 161 006. It should have a green dot on it.

Does the engine start without a fuel pump relais (if it is full of fuel) and die again? If it does you should try to lean out the mixture with the 3mm allen srew turning it counter clock wise in steps of 180 deg until the engine starts.

Yes I have checked all parts which are genuine evo1. I have tried starting with the OVP disconnected, still the same doesnt start. If I was to disconnect the fuel pump relay how would the pumps work or can they? correct me if im wrong.
Is the fuel pump relay beside the OVP?

I have just purchased a new OVP relay part number 2015403745. I will replace this and report later

You said that the engine is full of fuel so it doesn't start.

If you disconnect the FPR the pump is not running, but when you start the engine it will do some revolutions burning all fuel from the manifold.
Now the engine and the sparks are dry and clean.

Put back the FPR, lean out the mixture and try to start again.

If you again flood the engine, start the above procedure again.

It's easy to pull the FPR but some work to get the spark plugs out, dry them, dry the engine and put it all back again.

Thats what Ive been doing. Ive been removing, cleaning then refitting the plugs, it gets fustrating but patience is the key.
I assume you mean Fuel pump relay (FPR) and not fuel pressure regulator.
Where is the relay located?

yes that needs patience.

The fuel pump relay is located next to the overvoltage protection relay, looks like a black cigarette box.

The fuel pressure regulator (i love these abbreviations) is located between / under the intake manifold pipes.

Disconnected the FPR still no luck.
No fuel at all.
I think Im going to have to remove the whole CIS EHA unit.

it's a difficult topic and hard to explain via forum.
To explain it in a foreign language makes it even harder.

A fuel distributor from a 2.3-16 will let you start the engine but will not work for WOT.

I removed the fuel distributor and found it at fault.
When I switch on the ignition fuel pumps out of the distributor and into the cylinders which should not happen.
So I removed the distributor and found the plunger to be stuck in the open position, fixed the problem. But still the same problem.
I think there is something wrong inside the distributor.

Does anybody have a spare fuel distributor for 2.5, I need one urgent cant find one anywhere? bosch part number 0438101037
