16v Oil Pump

Hi,

I tried to do a search but could not find much if
if anything about this.

On the 16v the Oil Pump is a Gear
type Cog pump driven off the Crankshaft.

Is it the 2.5 16v version which has the wider
main Gear Cog does anybody know please ?

Reason I ask is that the wider main oil
pump Cog seems as if its flow rate would
be about 15% more than the narrower
one ?

Narrower one being from a 2.3 16v ?

The twist is that the 'volume' of oil flow is
actually less in the Oil pump recess on the front
cover in which the 'wider' Cog will fit ?

Part Number for the front covers are-

Wider Cog but less volume-

102 015 11 01 [ 2.5 16v ?]

Narrower Cog but more volume -

102 015 08 01 [ 2.3 16v ?]

This one also has a greater volume for
the flow of the water pump, in that it
has a deeper recess for greater volume.

All and any help appreciated.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Hi Gorilla,

the 2,5l has the wider oil pump and of course the timing case cover is also different. the difference isn't the wider oil pump assembly only also the double roller chain of the 2,5l requires more space.
the slightly narrower oil and water passages don't have any influence on the performance of the oil and water circuit.
if you go for the wider pump and timing case cover you still can use the single roller chain, it has less frictional losses than the double chain drive but wherefore the double chain drive is more reliable.
i use a new evoII block including oil pump for my new engine, the evoII pump is positioned external in the oil sump, driven by a seperate chain. the evoII has an operating pressure of about 7 bar, the standard 2,5 is about 4 bar.

Hi Rouven36,

Many thanks for the reply.

I am running the single chain set
up with a 2.5 head, but it seems
that the wider pump fitted into
the 2.3 front cover is the way to
go.

Will require a little machine work
but not so bad.

Many thanks,

The Gorilla.
