Not once have i asked Maki for money to remedy various thing´s he´s wanted me to remedy with the original install.
Not once.Right or wrong.
What i quoted Maki was additional work that i thought was on the agenda per his wishes..
For instance i´ve also calculated cost for upgrading connecting rods and pistons per Thomas wishes.
Racing hat geschrieben:Punkte1.
Getting a stable as well as functioning idle and idle control...i´ve told you that the step to that has been figured out.
Truth is that we got it working so well its downright silly.
What it takes is a used Bosch IAC motor, and Schottky diode and some careful programing of the VEMS and two more wires.
Further,i´ve also touched on that the software should be exchanged for version 073,main reason being better resolution and control of the WB.
Bungs for air in and out of the IAC as well as hoses for it can be prepared b4 hand(weldbungs),but the point is to an extent that we will weld these in place on the intake manifold.
Takes a few hrs..wiring also need to be upgraded a little..but it ain´t tricky in any way now that we know how to pull it off.
Idle stabilzes to the point where the car comes to behave as a stocker.
Cold,varm,snow,sun...it simply works.
I presume you´ve had a chat about this with Kim?
If not...ask the man how he percieved the difference before and after.
Works very very well Maki, and in short makes the engine/car MUCH more liveable around town and when easy on the throttle.
Also brings a much softer "touch" to the engine setup.
We also, absolutely imperative, need to calculate time to recalibrate the WB.
There´s no two ways about this.
1-it was set to hot to function by me
2-it has been disturbed.
3-it is wise to recalibrate after the WB "burning in"
Point 2...
In essence Maki...if everything else fails we need to swap turbine housing for something smaller.
If need be...we can even modify whatever housing for this.
Something often done with newer huffers to save both money and time,as from time to time turbine hosuings needed can be scarse and hard to find.
Last one i did this to was a car very similar to yours that carried a rather large KKK K27 that lacked a housing.(64mm inducer)
We modded one for it in the lathe(dimensions to "hit" is a fairly easy excersize),so we´re by no means stranded.
I´ll have a look around for a turbine the large side of ´60 or mid 70 that fits one way or another-if not we´ll make it do so in the lathe....it´s after all just a common T3 flanged unit.
However...there i think we should prepare ourselves to spend some time-playing around with some different turbine housings-until YOU`RE happy.
One thing i CAN say is...do not expect me to get the thing going b4 3500 with full boost shortly after.
I´ve got me reasons for this, and they´re purely technical..involves backpressure and heat.
I obviously was off to an extent with the turbine housing size at the first outing Maki(by reasons you are aware of)..must have been...none the less..i saw with my own two eyes what i saw with the WG...and it indeed sneaked open already at 0.2 bars of pressure-which is downright wrong and by no means help that situation.
Guess as always with these things with lag...there´s always more than one culprit.
Buuut....we´ll reduce turbine size alright if you got your heart set at it.
No problem.
For sizes...see above, and i for one would be glad to get a 70 sized one.(Can´t recall the size of the one on there right now,but if memory serves me it´s close to A/R 1-90 something)
Of course we can have it dynoed, but i STILL feel you should have that done at your end as fuels definetely vary depending on where you live.
As we this time out will start pushing the little engine closer to the fabled edge...for instance Aral 100 will make the engine behave differently than our "V-power".
My GUESS is that not even the V power will be consistant between here and down in germany.
It´s to the point where we even get "winter" fuel at the pumps up here, which if nothing else is a reciept of that fuel "build" indeed varies dependant of where and season.
Just look at Kim...he can´t get fuel with more than 95 octane in Denmark...
What i can do in a "hurry" up here is to road MAP the engine, and then closer to the limits leaving you with a much more agressive setup-that´s still within 95% approx of what the engine will put down.
Final word tho...yup...chassis dyno.
Further.
Be aware that chassis dynos DO differ.
Maki..it´s NOT what´s on the paper that counts..cause it is when the flag drops that the BS stops.I´ve seen 340hp cars beat the living crap out of claimed 440 ones at teh strip more times than i care to remember.
A dyno..is MAINLY there to find flaws and faults, and in all honesty you´re no where NEAR the limit yet by a long shot.
Ie,is the CAR fast..can it be driven hard, can it be driven as ANY car when not aso aso..
Variables are many, and my main concern at the time was-like it or not-that you didn´t kill yourself in the car.
This said as a friend of yours, and NOT to be condesending in any way.
I read that you took on nordschleife...cool...i got really impressed by reading that..all good in my book.
Anyway.
Yeah.
Let´s install a smaller turbine housing...let´s upgrade the VEMS in the fashions needed...but more important than all the rest..let´s play around with the car a little and find what´s there to be had.
Time wise.
I think you should expect to come up here a full week.
No..not to have the mods done, but to spend some serious time playing around with the laptop as well as the car as a whole.
Reason being..there´s as you know MUCH more to it than just what happens at WOT.
Mods per se...we could have done in just over a day from a purely mechanical point of view.
Buut...nope..we´re going to walk the extra mile here this time out...or not at all.
Time wise..that means you set off a friday to drive up here...and spend a full week with me around the shop...expect to get dirty..and expect to LEARN.
I´ll even throw you up against the lathe if need be...i want you to be part of it Maki.To experience what it is we do and perform to yuor car.
It´s to involved not to.
Also..bring the laptop.
We need to teach YOU to become the master of altering stuff without any ills.
Cost wise..what you ask here isn´t the end of the world.
We´r maybe talking..1000-1200 euro+ all in all.
If you then opt to alter the "order" of what needs to be done as things progress and go along...that will make it all vary of course.
Racing hat geschrieben:From the onset he was informed of me using a rather large exhaust turbine-which could hamper spool.Reason was to keep exhaust temps down as a TRIAL seing the use of your autobahn.
I told Thomas quite honestly that i had no idea what to expect as far as temps asf for extended periods of going wide open throttle.
Better late spool than a ruined engine wouldn´t you agree?
Turbine housings are after all cheap.
Racing hat geschrieben:Further,i still state that the S&S autochrome wastegate(which is crap) Thomas insisted on being installed against my judgement is/was leaking already around 0.15bars of pressure-which is a surefire way of increasing lag.
Please bench test the unit to practicaly confirm this.
I did,and i know what i saw with my own two eyes.
Racing hat geschrieben:Money.
To save Thomas money i opened up my home.
That´s where he stayed.Would you do that for your customers?
Yup.By that regard i looked upon him as a friend.
But i´m greedy or whatever?
Ok.You be the judge of that then.
Racing hat geschrieben:Please ad material cost alone up Lude.
Please do...and then come back and tell me that i overcharged or whatever.
Racing hat geschrieben:Have in mind, what Thomas brought to me was basicaly a bare car with a less than complete engine more or less tossed into the engine bay-courtesy Van Kronenburg in Holland according to him.
Various trims, clips and what have you were missing all over the place.
Racing hat geschrieben:Idle.
Let´s see.
I can´t very well have agreed to install an idle system on a car where the system current at hand at the time of the original turbo install hadn´t been developed.
Nor you or me can time travel.
Racing hat geschrieben:As,to a degree attested by Thomas,we agreed on idle air control delete at the time of the build- my judgement(for various reasons)-it was agreed on that the car would have to be idled with the foot for the first 30secs to a minute or so b4 driving away, and this would not present a problem in any way according to Thomas as the car was an enthusiast one anyway.
Racing hat geschrieben:Now...from my point of view then.
Maki was not only informed, but even insisted on, that a "break in" map should be installed. This was adhered to.This is something that was agreed on,and it was Thomas firm wish.
Later on,i was asked to send what Thomas called the "race" map over the internet(that had been arrived on as due coarse)...which was also done, for you guys to upload into the ECU.(To this day i have no clue as to if it ever has been installed)
Racing hat geschrieben:Yes.The amount of boost at the time of dyno was 0.7 bars.We even wanted to try what it´d develop @0.9,but out of various reasons-which were NOT me-agreed on not to.
At the time Thomas even asked me if it would be safe to dyno the then fresh engine, which i said it would. The dyno session wasn´t even discussed as a happening that close to the engine coming to a working state.
Racing hat geschrieben:That the ECU would lose memory is honestly beyond me...but i guess anything can be accomplished.
For over 40 000km with my own car i´ve never had it happen once, and then have in mind that i´ve done my utmost to abuse it.
Nor with any of my other customers VEMS cars.Ever, and there´s a "tad" more of those than Thomas´s like it or not.
Racing hat geschrieben:First time i heard Thomas was displeased was via hearsay.
Not from him personaly.(From another member on here)
In fact,to the point where months had passed before the first contact was made.
Racing hat geschrieben:I sure as hell have never claimed it otherwise.
Racing hat geschrieben:To jump someone over the internet like this...my personal opinion...again bad form as it isn´t exactly constructive now is it.
Racing hat geschrieben:I owe him a stop watch and a pressure hose for the SLS...yep..it´s still in the shed..hasn´t run anywhere..you see...i AM human...and i indeed DO forget stuff on occasion.
Other way around, where´s my distributor for instance?
Racing hat geschrieben:Like i said..pie throwing contest over the internet, and frankly...apart from the readers of this bringing the popcorn...what does the behaviour bring?
Racing hat geschrieben:One day it´s this culprit,,,next day it´s something else...
Then it´s the O2 sensor acting up...take your word for it..send you another one incl weldbung...free...together with custom engine mounts...free..
Racing hat geschrieben:Cause..we sure as hell get it to work well.....
Racing hat geschrieben:Then the intake needs to be remodeled. Not because of better function, but for estetical reasons?
Racing hat geschrieben:For now though..i´ll just continue doing what i do.
Build that hardcore turbomonster you´ve all gotten a glimpse of-if i can get the time to.
I can tell you what it brings - people can see how you really are
