Anyone know how to take the rear housing off of the getrag boxes in our cars?
Got a spare, and thought i´d take it apart to check it up and install new bearings asf.
Did you ever get the thing open and re-built? My gearbox is worn and a want to rebuild the spare. If you know of a source of info on this box let us know.
Thanks for the prompt reply which of course leads to additional questions:
--Any info on tolerances?
--Switching from ball to tapered roller bearings?
--Re-bushing forks or shift levers (the levers on the outside of the box)?
--Lightening gears (VERY VERY successful on an Alfa box)?
--Wear points to be watch for?
The lack of info on these gearboxes is surprising.........
Please Matsalleh, leave the getrag original!
Getrag have done some seriously testing on this gearbox!
The getrag should sertenely hold more then cars life...
Original Parts is a good word regarding this gearbox.
In essence i´d say that Johan is right.
When it comes to tolerances, wring out the textbook.
No need to swap bearing type.
Check bottom stock bearings for outer race failure or wear.
If you wanna attack anything within the box i for one would put the sliders in the lathe to lighten them. The Getrags are fairly "slow" shifters as is.
