No offense, but i´ll keep the CADs of the slide itself to myself for a little while longer, but i guess we can hand a teaser or two of the base intake flange at least.
It´s all done in solidworks.
The original intake is cast out of an aluminium/magnesium alloy, and these obviosuly have a tendancy to crack at the outer edges due to engine critical vibrations.Ergo,we´ve decided to use an aluminium alloy that is tempered by the name of 6086T651.
It had good machining qualitys, can be anodized(IOW you can pick colour of choice for your intake),it´s weldable(good for any eventual repairs asf).
IMO,the original intake has some drawbacks.Choice of material is one if you conisder street use.Lack of attention to idle air is another, and i guess the list goes on.(We won´t use needle bearings for instance, but a bearing material known as "glycodur")
Further,we´ve opted to "split" the intake.
Reason being that the original AMG intakes were made in various state of tune and by incorporations a split intake you won´t have to buy the slide more than once at least. If you want to alter intake lenght or runner diameter it´s mainly a question of swapping the base intake flange.
As most of you presumably don´t have solidworks in your computers i´ve opted to just take some pics of it all with a common digi camera, and i hope you apologize the picture quality.
(Old pics from an earlier design state approx 2 months ago)
Thing is that it is evident that there´s more to radiis and fillets and such than meets the eye,and the important part here isn´t the design in itself but the motors needs.
Ontop of the runner there is (not shown in the pics)a runner of approx 2 degree taper that is there to cater to velocity losses common with any engine.
That angle can also be adjusted for the hardcore motorsport boys.
In short, what we´ve had in mind here is a modular setup that can be fooled around with that won´t put you in the poor house everytime you wish to alter either lenght or diameter.
..and to be honest i expect most of these to wind up on more or less stock engines,or at least mildly tuned ones.
Intake WILL however be dependant of a stand alone system, and as such any thought of running the KE is just simply out boys...but hey...you can´t have it all
