Strange noise from underneath the car...

Beitragvon London-16V » 23. Nov 2007, 19:42

Hi guys,

Well this is a strange problem and one that NO ONE can solve it seems!
Recently at low revs i can hear a rattling noise fron underneath the car.
Some people said it was the exhaust so the front and middle section of the exhaust was changed and the all the heat sheilds.

The noise is still there. Its like a metallic rattling...up to 2,000RPM you can hear it a lot, but after that you cannot.

Please guys, do you have any idea what this is? Someone else told me thiis is normal!??

Thanks

Zak

That's definately not normal!
I also had such a problem. At my car it was the heat shield from the catalyst. I just removed it (and cut my finger on the f*cking sharp metal) and the noise was gone.

Maybe you should take a look from under the car (e.g. on a car lift) and try to hear where the noise comes from.

Hi Nagi,

My car has no cat. My feeling is the heatshield too. But they are all new! The noise is VERY annoying! Any other ideas please???
Thanks!

That's how i located a noise which came from underneath my car - btw it was a loose mounting from the exhaust ;-)

Hi Tising & Maki :-) Well thats what i told my mechanic to do, but he has not done it yet! Unfortunately British mechanics are not as efficient as German ones!

If other ppl are unable... just do it yourself. At least locating the problem is a thing you can do yourself for sure...

I think there where Rouven show it, can be really the place from where the noise comes.

And even if everything is new, can be that the parts don't fit good together.

In my opinion the noise might come from one of the heat shields, that is around the exhaust system from your car. So if you follow the advise from Tising you might find also the noise.

Hi Tising: I always try and do things the proper way! i do not like taking shortcuts at all. So i replaced the entire exhaust from Mercedes. Im not a fan of aftermarket exhausts! Well, in the UK the after market exhausts are pretty bad.

Hi Rouven036: I think you may have hit the nail on the head as they say! That is very well spotted! :-) I am going to get the car on a ramp and rev the engine to 2,000RPM and get the mechanic to look at that part!

Hi Senna: I agree with you even new parts do not fit well together. But a point to make is that this rattling noise was there before also! Thankyou Senna, im going to investigate this further :-)

Sieht sehr gut aus dein Auto.
Ich hätte zufällig noch die Verkleidung links neben dem Kombiinstrument.
Wenn du es gebrauchen könntest. Ist neu und original Verpackt.

Wow... your car looks realy nice!
I would eat from that car... ;)
Even the SLS-tank looks absolutely clean.

Interesting... they even changed the place of the battery and the fuses.
