Evo brakes

Beitragvon Sholto » 5. Mär 2013, 23:52

Hello everybody!

I'm sorry to talk here in english, but my german is too bad (I'm french...)

I have read some topics here, but because of my bad german, I've not understand everything

I own a 190E 2.5-16 since a few years, and I'm not happy with the original brakes system (to small). I do have Evolution wheels (16') and would like to know if it's possible to put Evo's brakes on my stock 2.5-16? (disc & caliper). Is it "plug & play" or is there something to modify?

Vielen Dank!!

Hello,

normaly it is plug and play. Evo II Breaks or EVO I ?
You have to change the Disks and the Break Calipers.

You can also use the Breaks from a W124 300E 24V or better a W124 E320.

This is not plug and play:
I have fitted C55 AMG Breaks ( W203 ) on the front axle an E500 ( W124) on the rear axle.
Some Guy`s here have a C63 AMG ( W204) Break-System fitted.

These brakes are not plug and play because of the distance between brake disk and ball joint that may be too small, even negative. In some cases cutting the splash shield is sufficient but you may need the lower control arms with the welded ball joint that are foreseen for these brakes.

EVO and EVO-II brakes are plug and play.

Ok, the splash shield must be modified. Than it is
Plug and play. Some spacers to get the middle of
the Calipers is not a problem!?

You have to cut a piece out of it to make space.
But the lower arms? Before the C55 Breaks I had
the 300E 24V Brakes with the original arms.
Maybe for the E320 Breaks.....

For the C55 Brakes is more to change to get them
fitted.

Thank you guys!
I want tu put Evo I breaks because I already have Evo I rims, I think that there is not enough place for an Evo II braking system...
I've read that the Evo I system was already much better than the 'basic' 2.5-16, when I try to follow some friends down the mountain (I live in Swizerland) the brakes are dead after a few kilometers! ;)

If the Evo I brakes system is plug & play, I'll try it!!

EVO II brakes do fit under 8x16 EVO rims, no problem at all.
Even the SL-600 brakes with 320mm disks do fit under these rims...

Okay, thank you every body!

I was not sure because le central part of the disk is larger on SL600 brakes (43.5/50.5)...

But it's Evo II also, isn't it?
What is the good reference pour Evo I? (diam. 300 if I remember...)

And I've forget to ask about the ABS : I think it's okay with the original one, or do I have to change for a SL600's one??

Original is ok!
You don`t have to change the ABS System.

Hi would recommend fitting Evo 1 or Evo 2 spec brakes if you can find. Upgrade to a set of harder pads (for example Ferodo DS2500 which works good on both road and tracK) together with the master cylinder (Brake booster is optional works fine with yours) from the same car. Bolt-on and quite easy to source unless you are looking for Evo 2 calipers.

Disc: A1294212012 (300x28)
Brake caliper L: A1294200083
Brake caliper R: A1294200183
Master cylinder: A0044307501

Change your brake lines at the same time and and replace your brake fluid with a good 5.1 spec, will make a huge improvement.

This should be correct list of cars fitted with the above if you are fine with the cast calipers

500 E (124.036)

280 (129.058)

280 (129.059)

300 SL (129.060)

300 SL-24 (129.061)

320 (129.063)

320 (129.064)

500 (129.067)

500 (129.068)

500 SL (129.066)
