Best oil to use for 16V

Beitragvon London-16V » 22. Nov 2007, 20:33

Dear forum,

The engine in my 16V is brand new. I have been using Mobil 1 0W 40.
Do you guys think that this is too thin? Should i be using maybe 5W 40? Or should i stick to the 0W 40?

What do you guys use - what brands etc?

Looking forward to hearing your views :-)

We've also had a thread (or more? ;)) about the "right" oil.
Just try to search for "Motoröl".

Many oils are used and many opinions are around.
I for myself drive "Castrol SLX 0w30 Long Life II" full syntehtic.

Some ppl say it's to thin but my engine runs...

On the other way there are ppl who use 10w40 mineral oil. But most ppl agree that THAT is not the right oil for our 16Valves.

I don`t think like these guys nagi!

before my engine was rebuild a had 0-W30! And the engine runs very well!
this oil is thin but not to thin.
Now I have castrol 10W60 and a rebuild engine! Motor runs very good!
And i will stay by 10W60! Real Racing oil!

I also have no reason to cry, the engine runs like a wolf if it's on temperature. The Dyno at HH2007 was fine though the car wasn't configured perfectly.

Maybe we'll have another look at HH2008. ;)

Really love this forum!
I have been running Mobil 1 fully synthetic 0W 40 and its been running sweet. Only thing is of course that when you have been driving a long time and as the oil temperature increases the oil pressure drops to 2.5 bar at idle, but goes back upto 3 on acceleration. Is this normal?
Thankyou :-)

Normaly the oilpreassure HAS to stay on 3 bar, also at idle.
BUT there are a few ppl whos cars drop down to 2.5-2.8 bar. My car also has about 2.8 bar at idle, when the oiltemperature is a ~80°C or more.

At least it should not drop down to 1.5 or that way as some normal 8V do (where it's not uncommon) and should speed up to 3(+) bar at some more rpm.

PS: Some of us also love (and live) it ;)
It helps some of us to hold a 16V without selling our undertrousers... ;)

So who's going to teach me German then!?? :-)
Guys...I have always used 0W 40 Mobil 1 in my motor, but im thinking of moving to a 5 or 10 viscosity. Would this be OK?
I have heard its not good to change oil like this?
